The development of the cassava processing industry

The development of cassava processing industry goes through traditional manual processing stage, semi automatic cassava processing stage, in which stage people process cassava by combining manual processing to cassava processing equipment together, and automatic equipment processing stage. Right now, in European countries, the automatic processing method is the main processing method, and most Asian countries also adopting automatic cassava processing method. However, in African countries, the three ways are coexist.

Cassava

Cassava processing starts early in African countries. Traditionally cassava processing is done by hand, and is small in scale. The purpose of cassava processing in early stage is mainly for food, for example, Nigerian and Ghanan like to process cassava into garri, fufu and cassava flour for food. But with the appearance of mechanical cassava processing equipment, cassava processing industry develops rapidly. Its processing products ranges from cassava starch, cassava flour, cassava chips, garri, fufu, cassava pallets to cassava chips and so on. And they are no longer primarily used as food, but used as industrial processing raw materials.

The traditional cassava processing normally requires a lot of manpower, and a lot of water will be wasted in washing stage. Mostly importantly, they can only obtain a small part final products due to they do not have efficient cassava grater to break cassava, which is low in efficient and yield. What's more, this cassava processing method can not ensure the quality of final products. Therefore it is gradually replaced by more advanced equipment processing method.

Equipment processing is a  an important driving force for the development of cassava processing industry. The appearance of cassava processing equipment greatly improved the cassava processing efficient, it only need 15 to 30 minutes to process raw cassava into starch, flour or garri. And with advanced cassava grater, the yield of the whole cassava processing line is higher. Normally, full automatic cassava processing line is finished in a closed system, where cassava can not contact with outer environment, thus the cassava has higher quality.

In a way, cassava processing industry will gradually become a industrialized cassava processing line, for mechanical cassava processing has better quality and higher yield.
